Difficulty Levels code to be added

Tue Jan 19, 2021 2:17 am

A discussion about adding a Difficuity options in the score site.

The relative difficulty of completing a task or objective. (video games) One of the difficulty settings in a video game.
Example: River raid can be played with three different levels and therefor the score would be easier if played in level one than level three.

Update might look like: Difficulty Level Played: __ of __ levels. No Levels [x]
The player would fill out Difficulty Level: 1 of 5 levels or click on no levels

This would give us two new fields in our database to calculate points on. played level and levels Available in the game. if a player score level is 1 and the available levels for that game is 5 we can sort the scores by the levels players have played at giving more weight to games played at higher levels and less weight to scores obtained by playing and a lower available score. If a game does not have levels then we have a button to state that and points would be awarded as usual.

We would need to add a description of this option in the form like we do for other option.

How do we order the scores in the scores pages. We have and option of ordering by Difficulty or Score where Difficulty would be weighted towards player playing at higher levels and Score would be by score as per normal.

Adding the option to the form and fields required to the database would be the first part of this update. Then displaying the update to the scores pages and point given for playing higher levels compared to lower levels. We would need to use the 5 available level to give out the extra point compared to lower levels paid.

Can i get some advice on how players see adding this update to the site would look like..

How we treat scores already uploaded we default the database fields for these games to 1 of 1 and add to the scores editor the option to edit the difficulty options by trusted and or the player that upload the score. if the option is changes to 1 of 5 increasing the level amounts all scores would go to 5 of 5 if the level amounts is changed, if a score is editored from 5 of 5 to 4 of 5 then the level amount has not been increased then all score will remain the same only the score editored would be changed to 4 of 5. This would be a quick fix for now and might need to be changes later less you can think of a easier method. This editor would give team members the ability to fix scores or mistakes.

Feedback drives changes.

Cheers Shane.

Yeah, Because something needs be done with all those (Level 0) (Level 1) etc scores. They just mess the place up, I'd be thinking if the game has a seperate highscore table for each diff level, That's fair game, Where you work it out from there, God only knows. :)

Edit : Or at worst, They're all contained within the same page, So to speak. :)

On the upload form between the Platform and the Game Information fields we add another field..
The field would be displayed like this.. Difficulty Level Played: __ of __ levels. No Levels [x]

The player would fill out Difficulty Level: 1 of 5 levels or click on No Levels then we add a sort by
button and sort games by 1 of 3 options, Sort by [difficulty] or [difficulty x score] and [difficulty √ score]

This way player will have a option of how they have the scores arranged however for competitions we
agree on the level of difficulty played.

We would have a option in the editor to make changes should we need to as well.

All on one page only sorted by [difficulty] or [difficulty x score] and [difficulty √ score]..

Mayhap, Just have a sub-menu inside the game's main page.

For instance, You press Street Fighter 2. It then shows you all the scores at the default. But has a dropdown, Allowing you to change between skill levels and seeing the scores at that level?

Just a thought. :)

I can add too the difficulty button a sub menu to only display certain levels instead of moving all scores based on difficulty to the top.

[Difficulty]
Level 1
Level 2
Level 3

If the game has three levels then this many levels will be in the drop down menu. I will code the upload form first so scores can have this feature added then add the display scores options...

I tell you what else that would be useful for, Keeping lap times and such together too. :)

Edit : Not sure about the multipler idea though.

Difficulty levels as sub-menu is very good idea. Mitch has a point also on about putting racing games different tracks to submenu (Mario Kart 64, XTReme Racing, Overdrive, Cycles etc.)

Cheers,
